For those of you that have doubted the future of mobile marketing, I highly encourage you to splurge on the new iPhone. Yeah, I admit, I caved into the hype… but after using it for the past few days, it’s clear that this isn’t just hype. It’s an innovation that brings all things mobile (phone, music, commerce) to one device that I believe may well be the innovation of our time that has a lasting impact on the way we consume our media.
It clearly illustrates the future of how consumers will be interacting with your brand and should be a loud wakeup call to all the naysayers. Whether it’s your front-of-house, outdoor billboard or radio spot, the importance of the extension of mobile media will only continue to skyrocket over time.
The iPhone is far from perfect… but they sure as heck painted a picture for what the future will be for mobile media.
Take a look at the following article that shows how you can take advantage of iPhone and mobile opportunities. Whether it means creating mobile versions of your website, developing short mobile supported video or just offering downloadable images made for mobile devices, there are plenty of opportunities you may want to explore.
With all of this being said, do beware. As of now, a very small percentage of phones can support a complete multimedia experience. In addition, there is a ton of hot air and false promises surrounding mobile marketing. It still comes down to a cost per impression, action or acquisition. Mobile marketing can be fully tracked, so you can tell instantaneously what’s working and what’s not.
In summary, get excited about the possibilities for marketing your productions but stay grounded by the fact that it’s still a very new technology.
And, on a side note, this was written from my iPhone. The keyboard isn’t as bad as they say once you get used to it.
